Broadband and how to get it

Fibre

We have received the following update from Openreach:

All work within Hinton Parva for FTTP (Fibre To The Premises) is complete and residents should be able to order. The remaining addresses within Bishopstone are nearly complete and should be ready to place an order by the end of June as Openreach is just in the process of commissioning the remaining properties.

As all Gigabit Vouchers only have a 12 month validity, Openreach has applied for an extension to make sure the vouchers do not expire. Please do not worry about any automated emails you receive saying your voucher is about to expire. It is down to Openreach to gain an extension, if they don’t gain an extension they are still committed to completing the project.

Mobile Data 4G/5G

All of the major Mobile Phone providers will be able to supply a data SIM that you can install in a compatible router of your choice or one provided as a package from the provider.

Alternative Services

In addition to the broadband supplied over the phone cable/fibre and through 4G/5G, Bishopstone and Hinton Parva Parish residents can also install an aerial and get it wirelessly at superfast speeds. To find out more and contact suppliers visit Superfast Swindon

Starlink may also be a practical alternative in more remote areas of the Parish.

Universal service obligation for broadband
From 20 March 2020, homes and businesses in our Parish will have a new legal right to a request a decent and affordable broadband service under the new Universal Service Obligation (USO) for broadband. This was legislated for in 2017 as a service that has at least 10 Mbps download speed and 1 Mbps upload.
